JUDITH WESTCOTT
Original Relief Prints
I create unique woodblock and linocut prints inspired by the natural world, printed by hand at my studio in North Devon. I’m also one of the artists who have worked together as Pine Feroda. I’ve lived in North Devon for many years, close to the Atlantic and the moors. Ancient woodlands, the hills and valleys of Exmoor, and the dynamic coastline are abiding influences.

Hello
At art college I was lucky enough to catch the final years of traditional print rooms. I learned to work with presses, inks, paper and processes reaching back centuries.
I love feeling part of this tradition and playing my part in keeping it alive.
Being part of Pine Feroda, a group of printmakers who created large woodblock prints, complimented and enriched my own work.
Pine Feroda woodcuts
Pine Feroda is a constructed artist with an established track record.
A small group of printmakers came together to make a print and, surprised by our success, have gone on to create a body of distinctive and striking work.
Pine Feroda has now worked and exhibited in many places including the Royal Academy, Eton College and the China Academy of Fine Art, Hangzhou.

This print is our reaction to the millenia old geographical upheavals that resulted in the red permian cliffs on the North Devon coast at Peppercombe. Being Pine we inevitably made a sort of landscape…
The starting point was our visit to a long gently shelving beach at low tide. The curves of gentle sea water pulsing in over the gleaming reflective sand led to this image as we experimented with being less representational in our approach. `It is a variable edition as we continued to alter elements and adjust colours.

Have you seen my River Study Prints?
During lockdown I folded up a big piece of watercolour paper and walked down to my local river. My aim was to try and get to grips with drawing water, using pencils, pens, fineliners and inks. Back at home I would work from memory, also using photos I had taken. When I had nearly filled the folded book I saw I had made something a bit like the experience of walking down a stretch of river.
