A classic overgrown Exmoor beech hedge in winter, cut back hard, with smaller trunks laid horizontally to fill gaps and rejuvenate the hedge bank. The process involves great skill, leaving a scene of stark beauty against the blue January sky. In a few years a dense mass of new saplings will be growing strongly from these stumps.
